Pregnant Women Are Dying From Chronic High Blood Pressure
By Radiant HealthPublished: January 18, 2022

A new study published in the journal Hypertension found that many American women with chronic high blood pressure are perishing both during and after pregnancy. This is especially true for Black women, who are three to four times more likely to die from blood pressure related causes than their white counterparts. According to Cande Ananth, the lead author of the study, women need access to better preconception care where they can have their high blood pressure diagnosed and treated before becoming pregnant. Obese mothers and those who are older are much more likely to have chronic high blood pressure.
