Two Leukemia Patients Cured With CAR T Therapy

Ten years ago, two patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia received a brand new therapy called CAR T, and these same two patients are still in remission. According to research published in the journal Nature, these amazing results indicate that CAR T can actually cure some leukemia patients. The treatment works by removing the patients’ T cells, reprogramming them in a lab to recognize and attack cancer cells, and then returning them to the patients. The treatment has not been successful with other types of cancers.
