DAY 20

“If you have health, you probably will be happy, and if you have health and happiness, you have all the wealth you need, even if it is not all you want.”― Elbert Hubbard

Woot woot … it’s Day 20! Starting and sticking to new (good) habits is not easy but you’ve somehow managed to last 20 days in the #RadiantBodyReboot challenge and for that we salute you! More grease to your elbows. You’re making investments in you that will pay huge dividends in your future self.

Today’s fitness challenge will be music to your ears. Bask in it as you pat yourself on the back for the great job you’ve done so far.

Okay, grab your lemon/lime water and let’s dive into today’s challenge.

Day 20 Wellness Action: Detox Your Kitchen

There are some things in your life that could be causing you more harm than good. From the plastics in your kitchen to the ingredients in your cosmetics, there are certain ingredients that you need to be conscious of. Your kitchen is the focus of today’s challenge, but we’ll talk about one more toxin that you might want to eliminate from your home.

BPA in Your Kitchen
BPA stands for Bisphenol A and it is a form of synthetic estrogen that can have effects on your health from your reproductive system to your cardiovascular system. Today’s Radiant Read has more information about BPA and its effects on your health.

To complete your task for today, inspect your kitchen for plastics that are not marked BPA-free because the chemicals from these plastics could leach into your food. When you’re shopping for plastics, make sure you look for BPA-free on the label.

Triclosan in Your Soaps
If you’ve paid attention to health news in recent years, you might have heard about superbugs and their threat to our health. These bugs are antibiotic resistant, which means that fighting them off can be next to impossible with the drugs we currently have in our medical arsenal.

Triclosan is an ingredient that is used in most antibacterial soaps. While the evidence isn’t enough for them to stop using it in in soaps and toothpaste, there is enough to show that this ingredient can alter the regulation of hormones, contribute to the development of superbugs, and might just be harmful to our immune systems. So watch out for this ingredient when shopping for cosmetics.

Day 20 Workout: Rest and Relaxation

Exercise is important but so too is rest and recuperation (R & R). R & R puts energy back into your body while exercise takes it out. However, it’s not a good idea to do nothing either as that can leave you feeling more tired and make getting back into exercise tomorrow harder than it needs to be.

For your R & R, do 10 to 15 minutes of light physical activity that isn’t really exercise; walk your dog (or your kids!), go for a swim, do some gardening or just have a stretch.

If you prefer something more structured, do 10 to 15 minutes of yoga sun salutations (click here for video) to help stretch your main muscles and mobilize your joints. Click here for full written exercise instructions of yoga sun salutations
