DAY 5

“Stress is the trash of modern life — we all generate it but if you don’t dispose of it properly, it will pile up and overtake your life.” ― Terri Guillemets

It’s day 5 already and you’re still hanging tight. That’s good!

Today, we are going to look at an important factor that has a huge impact on our health but is often overlooked …

Day 5 Wellness Action: Identify Your Biggest Stressor

Stress can do so much more than make you feel tired and overwhelmed. It can affect your immune system’s ability to fight off infection and can also influence how you age.

Stress causes your body to release a surge of cortisol, a hormone that promotes increased fat (the very bad kind that surrounds your organs called visceral fat), increased cholesterol and insulin all of which can ultimately lead to more serious conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Stress comes from different places like work, bad relationships, financial hardships, balancing work and family commitments, or even from lack of time to take care of yourself.

It is unrealistic to expect you to purge all the stress that you have in your life in one day. The more realistic goal that you will be focusing on today is to identify the one thing that causes you the most stress.

To get started, make a list of the things that stress you out in the following order:

1. The things that make it difficult for you to sleep
2. The things that keep you up at night
3. The things that distract you from your daily tasks
4. The things that are annoying enough for you to think about, but not enough for you to want to do anything about

The part of your life that gives you the most stress will likely come from one of the items you listed in response to questions 1 and 2. Now that you know your major stressor, what baby step can you take today to minimize this stress?

Day 5 Workout: The Dynamic Duo

Today’s workout targets our notorious problem areas including your thighs, butt and the backs of your arms. Using only two exercises, press-ups and plié squats, if you are looking for a total body tone up in ten-minutes flat, this workout is for YOU!

1) Do as many press-ups as you can and then note the number

Rest 60 seconds

2). Do double this number of plié squats so if you did 12 push-ups before you should now do 24 plié squats

Rest 60 seconds

3) Do another set of push-ups – do as many as you can again but expect it to be less than your first set.

Rest 60 seconds

4) Do double this number of plié squats

Rest 60 seconds

5) Do a final set of push-ups – last set so do your best!
